International Day of Play<\/h3>\n

On the ocassion of today’s International Day of Play we wold like to raise awareness about how central play is to every child\u2019s development and well-being. And it\u2019s a time when we make sure that all children are able to fulfil their right to play. The theme for this year\u2019s International Day of Play is \u201cChoose Play \u2013 Everyday\u201d.<\/div>\n

We are supporting this day of action with an educational game that can also be found in our picture book for daycare centers: Make your own Bauhaus sound memory using matchboxes instead of cards together. Fill the boxes with different sounding objects such as paper clips, grains of rice, beans, coins or paper balls, form sound pairs and train your hearing – how good is your sound memory?<\/div>\n

The game was invented by the artist and designer L\u00e1szl\u00f3 Moholy-Nagy, who was a teacher at the Bauhaus art school from 1923 to 1928. At the time, he was enthusiastic about the big city, trains, fairground carousels, machines and media, which he saw as both a sensory stimulus and a challenge for people. He wanted his students to train their senses through experimental exercises.<\/div>\n
