World Alzheimer’s Day: Social isolation as a risk factor for dementia
People who live in social isolation for long periods of time have a significantly higher risk of dementia. What else do we know about this condition? This year, Alzheimer’s Disease International (ADI) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) launched the World Alzheimer Report 2024 survey. It aims to conduct the world’s largest survey on attitudes and beliefs about dementia, involving people with dementia, their carers, health professionals and the general public. As part of our efforts, we have developed the ‘Tinnitus & Dementia’ education programme, which includes targeted information, explanatory videos and counselling services. Our goal is to raise awareness of the importance of regular hearing tests, the benefits of using hearing aids when needed, and appropriate exercises to promote cognitive performance.
